Korea's fiscal deficit fell more than expected last year thanks to increased tax revenues amid the country's gradual economic recovery,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

The government is examining a Reuters report that a group calling itself the ��Kuwait Mujahideen�� killed a Korean national in Kuwait,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

The crew of the Russian trawler Sparta,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which was stranded in the ice on the Ross Sea near the coast of Antarctica, applauded as the Korean icebreaker Araon appeared on Christmas Day to rescue them after 10 days stuck in the ice.
At around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Araon reached the distressed 500-ton fishing vessel,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which had crashed into a 900-m iceberg some 3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],704 km off the coast of New Zealand, tearing a 200-cm hole in its hull. The accident caused the Sparta to lean 10 degrees but fortunately it did not sink after tilting sideways. When the Araon came within 200 m of the Russian trawler,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it dispatched four engineers aboard rubber boats to retrieve the fishermen.
The Sparta had become stranded while fishing on the Ross Sea at 11 a.m. on Dec. 15. Some of its crew attempted to escape on rubber boats as the sea water filled up the ship's hull,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but to no avail.

Several days after it was reported stranded, a New Zealand Air Force cargo plane dropped off food and a pump to keep the crew well-nourished and ensure they could empty the sea water from the ship to stay afloat. But their problems were far from over. They were too far from the coast,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the deteriorating weather conditions made it impossible for spare parts to be delivered,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so they were unable to repair the ship.

Japan's Asahi Shinbun reported Tuesday that 418 open-reel tape recordings of Japanese colonial administrators during the country's colonial rule of Korea had recently been discovered in what totals up to 800 hours of recordings. Much of their comments are justifications for Japan's forced annexation of Korea,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the wide-ranging transcriptions include mention of the intention by some to grant Korea partial autonomy in a British style system since it would be "impossible" to forever deny Korean desires for independence. The recording comes from four years of interviews and discussions with around 120 former colonial administrators that began in 1958 in an effort on the part of former colonial official Hozumi Shinrokuro to record colonial history. Many already expect the tapes to reveal more than ever before about the mind set of Korea's colonial rulers.

The Seoul District Criminal Court on Monday handed down sentences to former Grand National Party lawmakers and tax agency officials involved in illegal fundraising for Lee Hoi-chang's failed presidential bid in 1997.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told Greek lawmakers Sunday that Beijing supports a stable euro and wants to ease trade ties between China and the European Union,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

Sony��s announcement Tuesday that it has agreed to set up a joint venture with Sharp for the manufacture of next-generation liquid-crystal display panels has put Samsung Electronics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Sony's long-time partner in LCDs, on red alert. Huge losses, tangible or intangible, seem inevitable for the Korean conglomerate, which is already battered by a corruption scandal.
Since establishing LCD panel joint venture S-LCD in 2003,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Samsung and Sony have maintained a close relationship,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bearing an equal share of expenses in the construction of new factories. When new plants were built in 2004 and 2006,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Sony invested some W1 trillion to W1.3 trillion each time (US$1=W947).
But Sony's latest decision leaves Samsung alone to invest in S-LCD's 10th-generation production line and it will cost an estimated W5 trillion to build.
Above all, Samsung stands to lose its biggest buyer in the 10th-generation LCD market. S-LCD's new line,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when put into operation, was expected to bring annual sales of W4 trillion, of which Sony was expected to buy half. For the past four years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Sony bought around W2-3 trillion worth of LCD panels annually from S-LCD.
Samsung also worries about possible damage to its brand image. This eventually helped Samsung take the top spot in the global LCD TV market.

S-LCD means a lot to Samsung: Lee Jae-yong, the only son of Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee, is the official director of S-LCD.
The new alliances among the Japanese rivals has prompted calls for closer cooperation among Korean enterprises. Several companies led by the Korea Display Industry Association have laid out plans to work together in the development of display panels, equipment, parts and materials.

Hyundai Asan has been suffering its worst-ever crisis since its tour services to Mt. Kumgang were suspended in July last year following the shooting of South Korean tourist Park Wang-ja by North Korean soldiers. Hyundai Asan has had to carry out restructuring several times, cutting the number of staff to some 400 from 1,084 before the suspension. The remaining employees have accepted pay cuts of five to 30 percent or had their salaries deferred. Its organization was also dramatically downsized; out of six departments in the Mt. The fact is, however, that’s not necessarily so. If you would’ve done X (or not done Y), it’s not clear that you would have been successful. Odds are slim that every single thing would have unfolded perfectly. You don’t know what challenges or calamities may have befallen you along that untaken path.

Or it could be that you weren’t (and aren’t) willing to put in the effort required to make your dream come true. Maybe it's more of a it’s more of a fantasy than a life goal. 1. Recognize that everyone has some regrets in life – and see how they handle them.

Think about your Coulda Woulda Shoulda experience. What happened? What might you do differently in the same circumstances? If you could go back in time and coach yourself through whatever happened, what advice would you give yourself? In what ways have you repeated your Coulda Woulda Shoulda experience? For example, did fear stop you? In what way are you still doing this today? Does your Coulda Woulda Shoulda represent an obstacle with which you’re still grappling? What alternative solutions are there?
You are not alone. Look at how the people you know handle their regrets. Of those, who would you like to emulate? Uncle Biff who’s never ever gotten over that missed baseball in Little League – or Aunt Buffy who made and lost a million bucks and laughed her way through the process of making her subsequent million?
If you’re still brooding over something, odds are it involved an important dream – one that probably got deferred. Ask yourself: is this still a dream or goal to which you aspire? If so, how can you take steps towards achieving that dream, starting now? If the dream is less attractive to you now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then give yourself permission to stop mourning what didn’t happen. It could well be that you didn’t REALLY want what you thought you did. For example, it could be that your earlier goal was something you (or someone close to you) believed you ‘Should’ do, rather than a true passion.
